DPU Celebrates Volunteer Month
DPU employees who volunteered to work at an event during the past 18 months were invited to a luncheon at the Bon Secours Training Center, April 18 for National Volunteer Month (right). Each table shared what volunteering meant to them personally, what they had learned, or what their favorite event was.
DPU Director April Bingham said, “it really does mean something. Our jobs go far beyond what the public can see.” She said volunteering provided a sense of purpose and community, as well as an opportunity to meet other DPU employees and improve social skills. “Every day is an interview, even when you’re not interviewing. It gets you out of your comfort zone.”
Attendees included Rosa Harris, Kendra Henderson, Alma Gordon, Dexter Anderson, Rick Barden, Antominio Cosby, Patra Brodie, Rodney Munford, Rickie Chavis, Jerrell McKnight, Lisa Smith, Michael Burns, Beverly Bacote, LaRhonda Robinson, Tierra Martin, Monique Williams, Tarmesha Carter, Yolimar Garcia, Shawn Manning, Jonette Meade-Barley and Jamie Queen. Members of the Executive Leadership Team assisted at the buffet table.

The Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure Safety and Modernization grant program is intended to improve public safety, protect public health and reduce methane emissions from aging natural gas pipelines.
PHMSA Deputy Administrator Tristan Brown came to the 3000 block of Lawson Street in Swansboro West in the 5th Council District on April 17 to present a $10 million check to Mayor Levar Stoney, in addition to a $7.1 million check to Mayor Lloyd Snook of Charlottesville. Congresswoman Jennifer McClellan also spoke at the event along with Lauren Hildebrand, director of Charlottesville DPU and Erin Kurilla, vice president of Operations and Safety at the American Public Gas Association.
